Kilago Unlock Literacy Project - Kilago Area Program - Kahama Lake Cluster in Partner with ORICA LTD TANZANIA.
The Kilago Area Program has been working to enhance the quality of education since 2016, focusing on literacy, early childhood development, and school enrollment. Despite these efforts, poor infrastructure, including dilapidated classrooms, inadequate learning spaces, and long distances to school, remain significant barriers to education in Kilago Ward. These challenges contribute to low attendance, poor performance, and high dropout rates.
To address these issues, the project in partner with ORICA LTD TANZANIA constructed 2 classrooms at Kawe Primary School and improved 13 community reading camps. These camps offer after-school reading sessions, allowing children to access books and improve literacy. The project also enhances the capacity of Reading Camp Facilitators and engaged the community in the construction process.
By improving the teaching environment and providing better access to educational resources, the project supports 2,802 students (1,256 boys and 1,545 girls) from pre-primary to grade 3 in Kilago. The overall goal is to create a conducive learning environment that enhances literacy and academic performance.
Key activities included, construction of classrooms at Kawe Primary School. Established and equipped community reading camps with books, materials, and necessary facilities. Trained teachers and community mobilizers in literacy techniques and teaching methods. Engaged local communities to support school infrastructure development and maintain reading camps.
This project plays a vital role in improving educational outcomes and ensuring a brighter future for the children of Kilago.
